Who I am

Mission

Luna IT Consulting is a one-person software consultancy. With fifteen years of engineering experience — building products, scaling systems and leading the teams behind them — I help small and medium sized businesses make good technical decisions and build software that holds up.

If you are weighing a build, a rewrite or a hire, I can help you think it through.

Fifteen years building and leading software teams — at GitHub, Cloudflare and InVision, and as co-founder and CTO of a Montreal fintech startup. Luna IT Consulting brings that experience to small and medium businesses.

Scaling past the first architecture

I have worked inside companies as they went from thousands of users to millions, where the design that got them started stopped being the one that could carry them. That work is rarely a clever rewrite. It is finding what gives way first, fixing it in the right order, and keeping the thing running while you do.

Taking a product from zero to launch

I co-founded a Montreal fintech and built its engineering team from nothing. We took a full banking product, paired with a pre-paid Visa card, from alpha to beta to general availability in twelve months and launched it into a crowded US consumer market. It reached tens of thousands of users, and we never had an outage of our own making.

Turning a team around

I have led engineering teams since 2015, and more than once that has meant taking on one that was not performing. It is seldom a matter of adding process. It is working out what is actually in the way, clearing it, and getting the team back to finishing things — and to enjoying the work again.

Services

Custom Software

Whether you are starting from a blank page or inheriting something that has stopped serving you, I design, build and ship software end to end — and leave you with a codebase your team can keep moving. Web applications and public APIs, mobile apps for iOS and Android, and reviews or rescues of code that is already running.

Everything is async, remote and bounded. If you would rather buy a fixed piece of work than scope a project, the options below have a price on them.

How we can work together

Consultation as a Service

Every one of these has a fixed scope and a real price, so you know what you are buying before we talk. All of it is async and remote, with calls by appointment.

Scope My Build

Decide what to build before you build it.

You know the problem. You do not yet know the shape of the thing that solves it, or what it will take to get there. Work that out before it is expensive to change your mind.

  • What to build first, and what to defer
  • A technical approach and its trade-offs
  • Rough effort and cost to a first release
  • A written scope you can hand to any builder

$1,500 fixed scope, over one week

Scope the build →

Vendor & Team Sanity Check

Check the plan before you sign the cheque.

You are about to commit real money to a development agency or a first senior hire, and no one on your side can judge whether the proposal is sound or the candidate is good.

  • Agency proposals, timelines and estimates reviewed
  • A sanity check on the proposed technology
  • Technical screening for key engineering hires
  • A written report naming what is over-scoped or risky

$1,500 fixed scope, over one week

Review the plan →

Codebase Health Check

Fixed scope. Fixed price. One week.

You inherited an application, had one built by an agency, or generated an early version with AI tooling — and now nobody is sure what is underneath it. Before you commit budget to a rewrite or a first engineering hire, find out what you are actually dealing with.

  • What’s healthy and worth building on
  • The risks that will hurt you first, ranked by likelihood and cost
  • A prioritised remediation plan with rough effort estimates
  • A 45-minute call to walk through it

$1,500 fixed scope, over one week

Help Us Scale our Application

It worked at ten users. It is breaking at ten thousand.

Something built quickly — by an agency, or generated with AI tooling — is now carrying real traffic and starting to buckle. I find what gives way first, and tell you what to do about it before it goes down.

  • Where it breaks under load, and at what point
  • Data model, queries and infrastructure review
  • A scaling plan ordered by what hurts soonest
  • A 45-minute call to walk through it

$1,500 fixed scope, over one week

Help Us Scale our Team

The team that shipped fast has stopped shipping.

Delivery has slowed and nobody can say exactly why. I talk to your engineers, find where the process is costing you, and propose changes you can actually adopt.

  • Conversations with the people doing the work
  • Where the process is creating the pain
  • Concrete changes to planning, review and release
  • A written report and a walkthrough call

$2,500 fixed scope, over two weeks

CTO as a Service

A CTO to think out loud with, without hiring one.

You are making decisions that are hard to reverse — what to build, what to buy, who to hire next — and there is nobody senior to test them against. Bring them to me before they are expensive.

  • Up to 4 hours a month, used however you like
  • Async by default; calls by appointment
  • Technology choices, build-or-buy, hiring plans
  • Three-month initial commitment, then month to month

$1,200 per month, up to 4 hours

Team Lead or Architect as a Service

Bring me the problem; I’ll break it into work.

You have a project and a team, but nobody to turn one into the other. I take the problem apart into deliverables, work with your engineers to share it out, and stay with it until it lands.

  • Up to 12 hours a month
  • Async by default; calls by appointment
  • Problems broken into estimated, delegable work
  • Architecture decisions written down, not just made

$3,500 per month, up to 12 hours

Scope a project →

Technical Due Diligence

Before you write the cheque.

You are buying a company, investing in one, or merging with one, and the technology is the part nobody in the room can assess. I tell you what is actually there, in time to change your mind.

  • What you are actually acquiring
  • The risks that become yours on day one
  • What it will cost to keep running
  • A written report, and a call with you or your board

$5,000 fixed scope, over two weeks

How I work

A custom solution with a personal touch

You work directly with me — there is no account manager, and nothing gets handed to someone more junior. Engagements are scoped so they finish, and I would rather tell you a project is the wrong idea than take it on badly.

Who you’ll work with

Salvatore D’Agostino

Founder & Principal Engineer

I have spent fifteen years in software — mobile and web applications, public APIs, high-traffic sites, and the infrastructure underneath them. I have worked with startups in Montreal, New York and San Francisco, lived in a few of those cities, and found my way back home to Montreal. Luna IT Consulting is how I bring that experience to smaller businesses who need it but cannot hire for it.

You work with me directly, start to finish.

Get in touch

Let’s talk about it

Book a call if you’d rather talk it through, or send a note if you’re still working out what you need. Either is fine — there’s no pitch at the end of it.

So that every client gets senior attention, I take on a maximum of one to two engagements a month.
